Instead of a singular, annual conference, jrO-MUN is a year long program that offers a four week debate cycle, during which delegates are mentored in MUN skills. Each debate cycle ends with a weekend MUN conference.
We are also a fully online conference, so delegates from all around the world can interact and exchange ideas
jrO-MUN delegates will be assigned mentors, who will be guiding delegates with research, speech drafting, and other academic aspects of MUN during the four week debate cycle prior to the conference. Mentors will be communicating with delegates via emails and an online platform.
As an online conference, jrO-MUN is much more focused on debate, and as such, most of the conference will be focused on the debating process. A pre-written resolution will be provided shortly before the conference, and delegates will spend most of their time debating on the resolution, as opposed to lobbying and drafting a resolution.
jrOMUN debates are also much shorter in duration, with each debate session averaging at 5 hours spread out over two weekend evenings. However, instead of occurring annually, jrOMUN debates occur each month, so delegates will have plenty of opportunities to continuously review and improve their skills.
JrO-MUN conferences consist of multiple, 4-week, debate cycles:
During the 4 weeks, mentors and secretariat will be helping delegates with research, document drafting, speech writing, and give general feedback. (See our FAQs page for more information on what the four weeks entail)
Delegates will learn how to conduct country-topic research, write a position paper, draft opening speeches, and how to amend a resolution.
On the weekend of the final week of the debate cycle, the conference is held online via zoom Committee numbers and sizes may differ, but there are usually 1-2 committees. Delegates will be debating on a pre-prepared resolution during two 2-hour sessions on the evenings.
