Junior Online Model United Nations (jrO-MUN) and Online Model United Nations (OMUN) are the world's first fully online MUN programs developed by MUN Impact.
If you are a middle school student and have an internet connection, you are able to join in our debate program. For any queries, email hkurata@munimpact.org.
MUN Impact is a community, a movement, and a launch pad for engagement with the United Nations. As a community of past and present delegates and MUN conference organizers, we believe that Model United Nations can motivate and inspire participants to move from academic debate to action, action that supports the mission and mandates of the United Nations, particularly the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
jrO-MUN is a global MUN program run by high school students for middle school students.
We use THIMUN Rules of Procedures that have been adapted somewhat for the online environment.
Head to the Delegate Resources page to find out more about our debate procedures.
jrO-MUN uses a Four Week Debate Cycle to prepare and mentor its delegates for the 2-day debate at the end of the cycle.
Four Week Debate Cycle:
Week 1- Work on learning about your country and issue. Share your research links on Edmodo, ask questions and share your observations on your debate issue. Students change their profile photo to the flag of the country they are representing. (Focus-Research and Writing)
Week 2- Develop a policy statement that presents their assigned country’s position on the issue for debate. Delegates will post their short policy statement and receive feedback from the mentors. (Focus- Research and Writing)
Week 3- Turn policy statement into a 1-minute opening speech while coming up with helpful notes for the debate. (Focus- Speech and Debate)
Week 4- Turn your ideas into several clauses to be inserted into a resolution. Mentors will help delegates with the finer points of resolution writing (Focus: Writing and Debate)
Debate- Saturday of Week 4 and Monday of Week 5.
jrO-MUN holds debates in a series of online conferences rooms using the Zoom platform. Debates are held in 'real time', where delegates communicate using audio features and chat functions to make speeches and pass notes. Delegates are encouraged to download the conference platform on a tablet or laptop computer prior to the debate.
Yes! All of our materials come from Taipei American School MUN (TASMUN). They are readily available on the Delegate Resources page.
Taking it Global is an educational networking platform for delegates to discuss the issue with other delegates, student mentors and directors before the debate. It is our first year using this platform, which has replaced the previously used Edmodo platform.
We hope students can utilize this platform to not only share position statements and relevant articles, but also general thoughts and experiences on the issue we will debate. We also have guidelines in the form of a four week debate cycle.
Due to the closed nature of the classroom, we cannot share the TIG link/code publicly. Delegates and Directors should register for a debate to receive login credentials.
While awards are generally not given at THIMUN Conferences, jrO-MUN offers a fun superlatives activity at the end of the two-day event as part of the Closing Ceremony.
YES! jrO-MUN caters for delegates of varying levels of experience with our extensive mentoring program provided by the Executive Administrative Officers. We offer a Four Week Debate Cycle that helps prepare new MUNers for the debate. In fact, many delegates use jrO-MUN's bimonthly debates as a training process for future MUN opportunities!
Delegates may sign-up individually on the Debate Registration page. If there are multiple students from the same school, students should ask their MUN Director/Teacher to register as a group. If students do not have a MUN Teacher/Director, students should sign-up individually.
Please contact jronlinemun.outreach@gmail.com with any concerns!
Interested teachers and directors should register as a group on the Debate Registration page. Upon registration, one of the student leaders from the Leadership Team will contact you with more information and to answer any queries or requests. Please review our About page to see how schools and clubs can collaborate with jrO-MUN.
If Teachers/Directors would like to watch a debate before registering, they should sign-up as a Guest using the Individual Sign-up.
