Every week, we will be posting:
-One big SEL project that you can contribute to over the course of the week
-A recorded mini-lesson by Elliot or Anastassia introducing a new SEL topic or lesson (coming after spring break!)
-Several smaller SEL project options related to a theme (like Women's History)
As a homeroom, we will have a weekly Morning Meeting on Zoom every MONDAY & FRIDAY at 10am. This is optional, but a great way to share what we've been working on, how we are all doing, and stay in touch.
We miss you all so much and have started a Homeroom Padlet so that we can share links, videos, photos, and blurbs with each other to keep our homeroom community going. To add, you can:
Click on the little "POP OUT" window on the upper right of the padlet image below or go to this Padlet link: https://padlet.com/aradeva1/homeroomMTS
Click on the PINK PLUS sign in the lower right hand corner and add your comment. Please put your NAME as the title so we can see who is posting. You can add photos/video links and more.
Read other people's posts and add comments if you want!
Galileo Camps has posted some great resources that provide endless fun activities for you to do at home. This week, we want to highlight one of those activities - Family Flags!
In this design challenge, you’ll create animal flags that represent everyone in your family. You'll get to be creative and collaborative as you interview your family member's ideas for colors and animals to include on the flags.
We have also linked the Galileo Instructions Video and their materials list below.
Here are the materials you'll need:
Paper (index cards or cardstock is best, but copy paper can also work)
Markers, Crayons, or colored pencils
Glue/Tape
Scissors
Pencil
Small round objects to trace (plastic bottle cap, quarter, checker, etc.)
Larger round* object to trace (food can, deli container, small bowl)–needs to be smaller than the paper flag
Cord to hang the flags (yarn, string, ribbon, etc.)
Optional: plastic bag, water, washable markers (to dye paper)
Hi team! Keep going with the recipe exchanges! Thank you to Caitlin, Carson, and Harrison who have already posted recipes to our Cookbook Padlet!
We love that so many of you are cooking and baking at home. That is a great way to practice measurement, teamwork, and to have fun. We would love to create a 1st grade Cookbook to share out our Recipes, especially as we all try to use things from our pantries more and more :)
You can share out recipes onto our 1st Grade Cookbook Padlet (also imbedded below): https://padlet.com/aradeva1/cookbookMTS
Gather sticker sheets you might already have.
Put up big construction paper on the wall and secure it with tape.
Create a magical, special sticker world! You can use markers and more to spice it up!
Grab a stick or two of chalk as you head on a walk.
As you walk around your neighborhood, write positive messages on the sidewalk! Think of positive messages like, "Be kind!", "Find the joy in the journey!", "Teamwork makes the dreamwork!", "We can do hard things!", "Be yourself and have a great day!"
Read messages from other people!
We encourage you to pick and choose from the different activity packets (all posted as PDFs below) to explore mindfulness, growth mindset, and confidence building for young learners. Big Life Journal is a great organization that publishes all these resources.
We have learned Keys #1-3 in class, and you are welcome to dig into the rest of the keys to communication. In the work from home bags, we have included laminated versions of each key and a key ring for students to add onto. Extra PDFs of the keys that are small enough to fit onto a key ring are also included below. We recommend that you tackle one key per day and spend about 20-30 minutes discussing, cutting, and attaching to the key ring.
Students can:
cut out the key
discuss it with you at home using the posters below
hole punch the key
add it to the key ring.
