Senior Reminders
Senior Reminders
Seniors are reminded to check the Scholarship Google Classroom for information on local scholarships. Deadlines are approaching fast!
Seniors who are going to OCC next year will be going on a trip to OCC on April 29th. They were invited via email. They will register for classes, receive their ID and tour the campus!
Seniors were invited via email to a Construction Job Expo trip on May 6th. The trip is pending until enough responses are received.
OCVTS Decisions
OCVTS Decisions
OCVTS applications were open until MARCH 15th. Decisions will be made by OCVTS later this spring.
Scheduling
Scheduling
9th-11th grade students are finalizing their schedule requests for next year. Counselors sent appointment calendars for students to pick a time to meet and discuss scheduling for next year. Please remind your child to check their email regularly.
NJSLA Testing
NJSLA Testing
All 11th grade students will be taking the NJSLA-Adaptive Science test May 19 - May 20.
The Math and ELA NJSLA-Adaptive will be administered May 19-21 to all 9th grade students in English 9, Algebra 1, Geometry and/or Algebra 2.
SAT
SAT
Registration is open for the SAT. Students who have completed Algebra II are encouraged to take the SAT. The next date it is being offered at MTHS is June 6th. If your child qualifies for free or reduced lunch, they also qualify for a fee waiver. More information can be found at Collegeboard.org or have your child speak to their counselor.

Issues Facing Teens
from the Office of the SAC
Have you heard of Kratom? How about 7-OH?
The OCHD Department of Substance Abuse, Addiction and Opioid Dependency has developed a PSA on kratom. This brief 3-minute video provides important information on kratom.
Kratom is a plant (Mitragyna speciosa) native to Southeast Asia whose leaves contain compounds that act on the brain’s opioid receptors. At low doses it can have stimulant-like effects (increased energy and alertness), and at higher doses it can produce sedative and pain-relieving effects like opioids. There has been a significant increase in kratom use in Ocean County, specifically due to 7-OH (often referring to 7-hydroxymitragynine) which is a potent chemical compound found in kratom. Even at small amounts, 7-hydroxymitragynine can cause sedation, respiratory depression, dependence, and overdose, especially in concentrated or enhanced kratom products where levels may be artificially increased. These products are easily accessible and addictive.
