Google Classroom: AI Experiments with Google

Mix things up in your classroom with a brain-break that is innovative, educational, and fun at the same time! AI Experiments is a showcase for simple experiments that make it easier for anyone to start exploring machine learning, through pictures, drawings, language, music, and more (Google, 2018). By completing these activities, you and your students can contribute to the advancement of Google's artificial intelligence (AI) technology.

NOTE: All students can be graded; the only indication of the Workgroup association is the color coding.

All other students on the roster receive a “no grade” – the Assignment exists for them but isn’t graded. Note that ungraded Assignments are silent exemptions for students: they do not count for a student until they are graded.

Genesis Gradebook: Assigning Grades to Workgroups

Need to differentiate assignments and/or grades in a combined class? You can now assign grades for specific students or groups of students in a single class.

1. CREATE WORKGROUPS by going to Gradebook --> Setup --> Scroll to the bottom and click on "Edit Workgroups". Click on "Add New Workgroup" and enter a Group Code and Description, and click "Save". Once you create a Workgroup, you can edit the background and font colors of the students you place in that Workgroup.

2. ADD STUDENT TO WORKGROUPS by heading to Gradebook --> Roster and clicking the dropdown menu under the 6th column named "Grp" and selecting the group in which you would like to place that student.

3. To ADD AN ASSIGNMENT specific for a Workgroup, go to Gradebook --> Assignments --> Add Assignments. Add an assignment as you normally would, with the addition of selecting a workgroup from the "Group" dropdown menu.

Workgroups implement very loose associations between students and Workgroups and Assignments and Workgroups. When an Assignment that is linked to a Workgroup is graded, all students are displayed on the Grade Assignment screen and students who are in the same Workgroup as the Assignment are color coded.

To display only the students in the Workgroup, click the checkbox next to "Only Group ___" (located at the bottom of the page). ADD GRADES to those students who are in the Workgroup.
