This practicum focuses on professional responsibilities, planning for learning, facilitating learning, assessment, and the classroom environment. Students will be directly involved in all aspects of teaching for 50% of the required time during their last three weeks of the practicum.
During my practicum, I taught a month-long unit on matter that featured an interactive storyline, incorporating assessments, lessons, labs, and games while adapting instruction based on student outcomes. I integrated Indigenous ways of knowing through talking circles and a talking stick to promote respectful communication. The unit included cross-curricular connections to math, science, and technology, culminating in an escape room final evaluation where students demonstrated their understanding. It concluded with a performance task where students shared their creative endings to the story, showcasing both knowledge and creativity. I also taught interconnected lessons in health and math.

The science-based course gave me a well-rounded knowledge pool of curriculum integration and how to manage planning from individual lessons to year-long plans. It also provided me with many new resources, experiments, and lesson types I can utilize in my future of teaching.
In this course, students will learn how to integrate the fine and performing arts into the elementary classroom. Students will examine current theories and practices in arts education, and will develop creative skills associated with each of the fine and performing arts. Drawing upon this knowledge, and within the context of the STEAM semester, students will design and apply integrated learning experiences that enrich student learning.
In this course, I explored various forms of art and how they can be incorporated into a classroom. I learned how music, poetry, crafting, painting, and more can look different within various grades and learning levels. The course also informed me on topics of cultural appropriation, cancel culture, and plagiarism. Before this course, I was uncomfortable and nervous about the idea of teaching math. This course familiarized me with the LearnAlberta Elementary Mathematics Curriculum and differing strategies to teach all aspects of it. I also explored different manipulatives, assessments, and differentiation strategies in a math class setting.

The image analysis portion specified media and discussed how images can be manipulated and for what intentions. The topics covered in this course emphasize astronomy in our own solar neighbourhood.
