Skin & Bone offers a space where users may be educated on health from the inside out. This is done by taking a perspective on beauty and self care and learning about what may be in certain products by creating your own, and how these affect your health and beauty long term. An important value reflected in this project is that pride in appearance and health is for everyone. Gender neutral spaces and inclusive products and advertisements will support this value. Through the use of biophilic qualities, the intrigue in health is reinforced.
I am very interested in how interior design can positively impact health and the environment. This project is about savouring quality of life through health. The products themselves are intended to be completely plant based and recyclable. The architectural materials chosen for this project are also cleanable and sustainable.
The service desk is the first thing that welcomes users to the space. The service desk will organize sales and book appointments for maker studio workshops. A sand art wall also greets customers with a sense of biophilia through materiality and a directory guides them to the area they desire to reach.
The level one retail space will consist of cosmetic products and contains a vanity area to test products. The staircase adds height to the space and is located directly adjacent to the entrance.
The maker studio is divided into individual and group sessions. The structure above the group studio replicates canopy-like trees and adds to the natural and sustainable values the space holds.
The storage room will contain products only that need to be cured before being taken home. Skin & Bone will operate a cart system which will efficiently navigate the transfer of products throughout the space.
The canopy-like structures continue through the ramp into the seating area of the cafe.
The cafe includes floating bench seating made from bamboo that is durable and light. The water station on the left is free to anyone. This reinforces Skin & Bone's values.
The customer will have direct access to the salon or a dermatologist's office. The service desk at the intersection of the salon and retail space will serve as a point of sale and to book hair appointments.
The geometric yet natural shapes keep the biophilic atmosphere. The marmoleum flooring is easy to clean and a sustainable option for the salon.
The upstairs retail space will contain products that are used as ointments and hair products.
This is one of three offices that will serve as a consult office for dermatologists and nutritionists.
This space includes versatile furniture and will serve as an educational space towards health related research. The goal is to have presenters hold workshops on the science behind our bodies and how we can achieve health and vitality.
