The H&E stain (shorthand for hematoxylin and eosin stain) is a common histological stain used to differentiate between different cell shapes, patterns, and structure. In this way, H&E staining has become a hallmark in histopathology, helping doctors diagnose various diseases such as cancer.

When doing H&E staining, it is recomended that you wear protective goggles, gloves, and clothing. Some ingredients in the typical H&E stain are irritants, corrosive, or flammable. One common ingredient- hydrochloric acid- is extremely corrosive, handle with care. Keep H&E stain away from open fires.
