The research animal labs at Mount Holyoke give students the opportunity to learn how to work responsibly with animals to address important research questions in the life sciences. Students can gain a unique learning experience through hands-on training across many different model organisms.
Students interested in fields such as Biological Sciences, Psychology, and Neuroscience & Behavior get to work closely with their professors as well as be given the tools and confidence to run experiments themselves.
The care and ethical treatment of our animals is supervised by full-time animal care staff and overseen by Mount Holyoke’s Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC). The College holds an Animal Welfare Assurance from the National Institutes of Health Office of Laboratory Animals and our practices are approved by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).
