Siklab SSG Holds Second Reading of Constitutional Convention, Charts Stronger Path for Student Leadership
June 30, 2025 @ 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM
On June 30, 2025, the Siklab Supreme Student Government took another historic step in shaping student governance with the successful Second Reading of its Constitutional Convention held at the Regional Science Research Center. The full-day event, which ran from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, gathered the SSG officers, club presidents, and classroom representatives under the Coordinating Council to review, revise, and finalize pivotal changes to the organization's governing document.
The convention introduced landmark developments to the internal structure of Siklab SSG. Two new commissions, the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) and the Commission on Audit (COA), were formally institutionalized, underscoring Siklab’s firm commitment to equitable, transparent, and accountable leadership. This move was celebrated as a significant leap forward in ensuring checks and balances within the student government.
Among the most substantial structural revisions was the rebranding of Senators into Councilors, along with a streamlined number of committees to promote efficiency and focus. These changes reflect a collective intent to modernize governance while remaining responsive to the needs of the student body.
Capping the session was a privilege speech by Mr. Yancy D. Dizon, the organization’s adviser, who shared heartfelt reflections on Siklab’s growth over the past year. He applauded the SSG for helping him initiate numerous inaugural programs and emphasized the commitment shown by officers and representatives, especially as they chose to attend the event even after the official end of classes.
With this second reading completed, the Siklab SSG moves forward with a renewed constitution that mirrors not only the evolving identity of the organization, but the steadfast dedication of those who continue to serve it. 𝗔𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗔𝗹𝗹 𝗪𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝗶𝗸𝗹𝗮𝗯!

RAISE Program Awareness and Harmonization Caravan in SOCCSKSARGEN
June 11, 2025 @ 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM
The Regional Agri-Aqua Innovation System Enhancement (RAISE 2) Program in SOCCSKSARGEN, in collaboration with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and MSU-General Santos, successfully conducted the RAISE Awareness and Harmonization Caravan, a significant step toward strengthening the innovation and research landscape in the region.
This caravan aimed to reinforce the implementation of the Intellectual Property and Technology Business Management (IPTBM) initiative at MSU-Gensan, while fostering collaboration and alignment of innovation efforts among academic, government, and industry stakeholders in SOCCSKSARGEN.
The program opened with an inspiring message from Dr. Ryan G. Banal, Director of the Innovation Department, who emphasized the need to cultivate a university-wide culture of innovation and protect homegrown technologies. This was followed by an insightful presentation from Dr. Josephine R. Megalbin, RAISE SOCCSKSARGEN Program Leader, highlighting the goals of the RAISE 2 Program and its role in empowering agri-aqua innovation systems aligned with the needs of local communities.
Ms. Jeanette B. Madas, IPTBM Project Staff, then presented the flow of how the IPTBM operates within the university, its structure, roles, and the key processes involved in managing intellectual property. She also emphasized how IPTBM serves as a vital mechanism in supporting researchers, securing IP rights, and facilitating the commercialization of MSU-Gensan’s innovative outputs.
The open forum served as a dynamic platform for dialogue, allowing participants to raise questions, exchange ideas, and identify opportunities for future collaborations.
The program concluded with heartfelt closing remarks from Dr. Remedios Flamiano, IPTBM Project Leader, who expressed gratitude to all participants, partners, and organizers for their support and commitment in promoting innovation and IP awareness in the region.

A two-day seminar-workshop titled “From Unnamed to Named: Exploring Nemertean Diversity in the Southern Philippines” was organized by Dr. Angem Descallar and Prof. Maria Luisa Cabrera of the Science Department, College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, in partnership with the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research, Extension, and Innovation. The event was held on July 29–30, 2025, at the Regional Science Research Center (RSRC), Mindanao State University – General Santos. Selected students and faculty members from the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, the College of Fisheries, and the College of Education participated in the seminar-workshop.
Dr. Jamael C. Abato, a faculty member from MSU-Marawi and a graduate of Hokkaido University, Japan—recognized for his research on nemerteans or ribbon worms—generously shared his expertise and insights on these lesser-known marine organisms.
The seminar-workshop featured a series of lectures, laboratory exercises, and hands-on training sessions aimed at enhancing participants’ understanding of nemertean diversity, taxonomy, and ecological significance. Both morphological and molecular methodologies were employed. Tools for species identification, analysis, and documentation were introduced, including GeneStudio, BLAST, MEGA, and IQ-TREE.
