This is a brief tour of a typical MSUCOM course layout in D2L.

Most MSUCOM courses utilize D2L (aka Brightspace) to deliver curriculum material and communications.
If you have never used D2L before, MSU IT provides a short training course. Enroll in it by signing in to D2L, and then from the My Courses page:
Click “Self Registration” from the navigation bar at the top of the page
Click the link for “202# Students - Getting Started with D2L."
On the page that follows, click Register and follow the prompts.
Once registered, the training course will show up in your D2L list of available courses.
As a course is running, you'll want to make sure you're aware of any changes, additions, or announcements in the course. You can make sure you never miss anything by making sure your notifications are set up correctly.
The video to the right explains how to set up your notifications in D2L.
Another great way to get notified about anything going on in your courses is by downloading the Brightspace Pulse app on your mobile device. By downloading the app and signing in, you will automatically be notified of any updates in your course as they occur. You can download Brightspace Pulse for Apple or Android devices.
MSUCOM courses close at the end of the semester, which means you can't access them past that point. If you would like to save content from the course, you can easily download specific items, full modules, or the entire course by clicking the drop down arrow next to the title of the content and selecting "Download." Check out the video demonstration of how to download content from D2L.
Additionally, view the notes on downloading alternate file formats in the accessibility section below.
If you're expecting to see a course in your course list but aren't seeing it, you can use the built-in search tools to help you look! Watch the video to the right to see how to use the search tools and know what search terms to use, then how to pin your course so it's easier to find next time!
As recommended by MSU's Resource Center for Persons with Disabilities (RCPD), MSUCOM supports diverse study needs and faculty facilitated notetaking assistance by providing access to learning materials such as notes, slides, and handouts in advance of a learning event.
Additionally, multimedia recordings are often provided for learning events and made available for students to review at their own pace. These recordings are closed captioned and often include interactive, downloadable transcripts as well.
Students may access alternate file formats for files shared via D2L courses through the Alternate Formats option on the Spartan Ally content accessibility tool.
Here are two resources that will provide insight into the Spartan Ally tool:
