The Rainbow Connection makes wishes come true for Michigan children with life threatening medical conditions. The Pathway of Angels was created to honor and memorialize children who have fought an unimaginable battle. Engraved bricks share messages of hope and strength and even recognize donors who have sponsored a wish for a very special child. The proposed project will educate all visitors to the Pathway of Angels. As they walk along the path, they will learn about the various plantings through the labels and plants that are installed by Extension Master Gardener volunteers. Wish families (recipients), volunteers and staff will enjoy the grounds and serenity provided by the Pathway of Angels. Strategically placed benches allow for times of rest and quiet reflection. Visitors are surrounded in the beauty of the landscape and signs and sounds of wildlife. Neighbors and business patrons also enjoy our property as we are conveniently located a couple of blocks from downtown Rochester. The addition of labeled, colorful, blooming plants along the pathway will benefit hundreds of people from many different age groups and ethnicities.
The Rainbow Connection is seeking an Extension Master Gardener to design, install, label and maintain deer-proof perennials along our Pathway of Angels. Emphasis should be placed on plants that provide color throughout the blooming season. The Rainbow Connection currently has perennials planted throughout the property that may be relocated to enhance the project.
