Cranbrook House & Gardens is the former family estate of the founders of Cranbrook Educational Community, George Gough Booth and Ellen Scripps Booth. The estate features a 1908 English Tudor manor surrounded by 40 acres of gardens with extensive plantings, fountains, statuary, lakes, and streams. The gardens are visited by an estimated 32,000+ guests each year.
Today, Cranbrook House & Gardens is cared for by Cranbrook House & Gardens Auxiliary, a non-profit, volunteer organization dedicated to preserving, restoring, and maintaining Cranbrook House & Gardens and related cultural properties for the enjoyment, education, and cultural enrichment of our members, the Cranbrook community, and the public.
MSU Extension Master Gardeners are welcomed to get involved with a variety of volunteer opportunities at Cranbrook Gardens, including:
· Help with gardening throughout the 40-acre estate while responding to gardening and other questions from visitors. Volunteers maintain the gardens as part of a small group for a specific garden or special project such as the planting of the iconic Sunken Garden each spring.
· Greet guests and provide information as Welcome Center ambassadors.
· Educate shoppers and offer other support during the Winter Houseplant Sale and Spring Plant Sale.
The first step to volunteering is to become a Cranbrook House & Gardens Auxiliary member. Membership is free for master gardener trainees and for members who volunteered 50 or more hours during the previous year.
In addition to volunteer opportunities, members receive free admission on regular tours of Cranbrook House & Gardens, free or discounted admission at 360+ AHS RAP gardens throughout North America, discounts on select events, and more.
