The Oxford School’s Giving Garden is a “Plant-A-Row for the Hungry'' project dedicated to supplying the less fortunate in our community with fresh organic produce. The majority of our harvest is donated to the Remnant Project Ministries Food Pantry. The garden produced and distributed over 1000 pounds of vegetables in 2022 . Volunteers are needed throughout the growing season to help prepare the beds for planting, sowing crops, watering, weeding, identifying pest problems, and harvesting. We strive to educate our volunteers on the following organic gardening practices:
Starting plants from seed: We have a greenhouse
Insects: Beneficial vs harmful/ life cycles/ organic control
Seed & plant sowing
Companion planting
How to build a compost pile
Pollination
Seed saving
Native flower gardens
Tilling options
Soil testing
Mulching & weed control
Where: 775 W. Drahner Road, Oxford, 48371
When: Weather permitting, we meet on Saturday mornings from 9:00-12:00. Volunteers are welcome to work at the gardens anytime that fits their schedule. I am available by appointment to give orientations. We also have a "to do" list readily available for drop-ins.
