My view of teaching culture shifted drastically during my time in the MAFLT program. Rather than considering "culture" as content or knowledge to be transferred to students, I now view it as a set of skills and attitudes to be developed in relation to the target cultures (also known as interculturality). I believe it is incredibly important to equip our students with the critical thinking skills, reflection skills, and attitudes that will allow them to adapt to the variety of cultures they encounter, whether here in the United States or abroad.
A set of two lesson plans developed for first year Spanish students at the novice level. These lessons explore interculturality through an E-Pal exchange and discussing favorite music.
