Master's Project for the MA in Foreign Language Teaching
To prepare for my Experiential Module project, I looked to my professors for guidance. They suggested that I think about aspects of the MAFLT program that I enjoyed and any current problems in my Spanish classroom. FLT 881 was one of my favorite courses because I was able to learn and use new technological tools. I also knew that I wanted more peer work and communicative activities for my students.
I created a series of lesson plans that center around the annotation tool, VideoAnt. Each lesson plan has a one or more YouTube videos that students will annotate according to the specified topic (linguistic, pragmatics, cultural, creative writing, debate/opinion) and complete a class activity with those class annotations.
I designed a teacher’s guide that goes into more detail about how these lesson plans can be used and adapted for various levels and languages. It includes steps that teachers can take into account when using digital annotation tools in the classroom and additional activities that can be used. These lesson plans showcase the different ways that VideoAnt can be used in the classroom, especially because YouTube is a popular tool among educators.
The Google Site that I made houses all these lesson plans including videos, links, and materials. It is accessible to teachers everywhere. You will also find my rationale paper and reflective essay about how my EM project went. See the links below to check it out!
