Language learning has been an exciting journey for me. Like most kids in the U.S. I was introduced to Spanish in High School but I found that I took to it right away. I loved the challenge of it! Then as part of my senior year, I became a foreign exchange student to Ovalle, Chile for six months and found our just how little language I had and how much I needed to learn if I wanted to communicate.
After graduation, I enrolled at Bowling Green State University, where I had the opportunity to travel more and learn more language. By the time I graduated with my BA in Spanish I had lived in Spain for a semester and picked up enough French in French language courses to serve me well when I was on a week-long seminar in Paris, France.
I did not anticipate teaching to be something that I would want to do, so when I took the proficiency tests in 2018, I was out of practice and skeptical about what I was going to do with the certification. I hope to one day update this certification to better reflect my knowledge as well as to continue learning French when I have the time to spare.
