Pragmatics

This lesson plan and the subsequent rationale paper were created in FLT841 - Sociolinguistics and Spoken Language. This lesson plan follows the use of the standard ~ます (masu) form, aimed towards novice level Japanese students. The lesson plane and rationale focus specifically on transitioning into the polite form of this verb, with emphasis on the values of respect in Japanese culture, especially that of negative and positive face (Wardhaugh & Fuller, 2015).
