One of the most difficult things I've had to do for my EM was create a survey. The intended purpose of this survey was to be released to teachers in Japan to fill out, in either English or Japanese, to gather a broad understanding of their beliefs and current team teaching habits. There were two parts to my survey: a Likert-scale section and an open ended section. In most cases for all the questions, they were presented in both English and in Japanese for a broader audience.
Over two semesters, I created and refined the following survey, based off of two previously published works. Once the survey was finalized, I submitted the IRB, which allowed me to submit my survey to various members around Japan, in the hopes of having as many people take it as possible. Once the IRB was approved, I created the survey on Qualtrics via MSU, and then submitted it to various sources. I submitted the links to several Facebook Groups, via e-Mail, as well as to my colleagues, in the hope that it would have a snowball affect; that is, that people who took it would encourage their own colleagues to take it, and would continue to recommend it to others.
The survey was opened for several weeks. Once the data was collected, I proceeded to work with the data to create means of the Likert-scale information, as well as to do several rounds of analysis with the open ended answers. Some of these open ended answers were done in all Japanese, so before I did any analysis, I translated those into English, while retaining the original Japanese answers.
There were two parts to my survey: a 7-point Likert Scale, and Open-ended questions. Questions for respondents were in both English and Japanese.
