Sample of Materials for Language Teachers
This page provides a sample of what my French 1 curriculum looks like. The 2 main documents for each unit are the Unit Overview, which provides a quick glance at the rationale, pacing guide, and standards alignment for each unit; and the Lesson Outlines, which go into depth on each lesson arc with primary teaching points, suggested activities and formative assessments, and possible materials with sources of input.
Intercultural competence and diverse perspectives are included in this curriculum from day 1. While unit 1 tackles classic themes and basic points - greetings, introductions, the alphabet, etc. - this unit overview document shows how to present these topics in a manner that is both aligned with several sets of standards (state, ACTFL, and CEFR) and still manages to introduce the amazing breadth of the francophone world.
The lesson outlines document is where I imagine most teachers would spend most of their time. This includes the most important information about each lesson arc from the unit overview, such as standards and I can statements, but expands those into something from which a teacher can create their own lesson plans to match their own personality and teaching style.
For most units, I have also written possible supplemental materials such as unit exams. A teacher could choose to use this, or exercises from it, if they did not want to write their own exam.
Another provided material is a goal and objectives tracker which could be handed out to students to encourage regular reflection on their progress if the teacher does not have another method already in place.
