Upon entering my classroom, this wall is one of the first things students or visitors see! The current display is of country infographics which were made by students during our travel unit in January, and each class period was allowed to nominate one for the display based on their own criteria (most classes either went with most artistic or most useful for travelers). I then chose a few more to fill in the space and represent a wider variety of Spanish-speaking countries. Our wall rubric is also partly visible at the top of the photo; that does not change with the display but is a very useful tool for students to check on their own proficiency throughout the year!
We are also working hard to make the World Languages department more visible in the school and community; one way the students have been enjoying doing so is by making various hallway displays. This is 100% student made by my 4th hour Spanish 3 class, including building the display itself. They decided - correctly! - that their peers would be most interested in their street food unit, so they chose 6 classic Hispanic street foods to describe in bilingual posters (since they wanted to show off their language skills but also make the information accessible to all students). This display will likely stay up for a few more weeks until Spanish 2 is ready to make their chosen display which will be focused on sports.
