(10-12) - Credit: 1.0
Prerequisite: Geometry (it is also recommended that students have completed Chemistry). Students must also meet Parkland admission requirements and complete a dual credit application process.
This class includes one semester of a typical Physics 1 high school class as well as one semester of a dual credit class (4 hrs.) through Parkland. Topics covered may include selections from the following content: mechanics, thermodynamics, electricity & magnetism, waves, and modern physics. The course will be aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards with a focus on the scientific process, experimental design, critical thinking, and problem solving skills. The dual credit portion will focus on a conceptual (very limited math) look at "how things work" in the world around us. Upon successful completion of the 2nd semester of the class students will receive credit at Parkland for PHY 120 and PHY 129 (a course suggested for non-science majors). Students are responsible for dual credit costs and textbooks when required.
