(11-12) - Credit: 1.0
Prerequisite: Chemistry 1 and completion of or current enrollment in Algebra 2
This year-long course is designed to be the equivalent of the general chemistry course usually taken during the first year of college. The course emphasizes chemical calculation and the mathematical formulation of chemical principles. The student will need to purchase a carbonless copy laboratory notebook so that a permanent record of the laboratories may be kept as proof to colleges of experiments completed. Topics covered will include: stoichiometry, reactions in solution, oxidation reduction, properties of gases, atomic structure, periodicity, chemical bonding, shapes of molecules, thermochemistry, chemical kinetics, chemical equilibrium, acids and bases, and electrochemistry.
