What is Art Club?

By Katie Cumbee

Art club is an after school activity. It’s one of the many school activities that are available to Mahomet Seymour Junior High students. Art club is led by Mrs.Kelly.  It is one of four clubs that rotate meetings on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Art club helps students practice their art skills while using their imagination and creativity. Some of the types of activities that have been done in art club are independent drawing, inktober challenge, oreo carving,  and a club favorite - Bob Ross Bingo.

Last week, I had a conversation with Mrs.Kelly about her role in art club and what she thinks about it. Mrs.Kelly stated she has been the teacher for art club for fifteen years. She feels the most important thing about art club is to have students learn to use their creativity for future careers. You’ll be able to meet people with the same interests and be apart of the school’s art community.  If Mrs.Kelly could change one thing about art club, it would be access to more art materials.

I joined art club because I wanted to improve my art skills. Anyone who knows me, knows I love to draw. But I wasn’t very good at it. Mrs Kelly and the art club have shown me new techniques to use in my drawing.  We don’t always have activities related to drawing; however, I'm enjoying learning with every new art club meeting. If you like to draw or have an artistic imagination, the art club offered at Mahomet Seymour Junior High might be a good place for you.
