Fire Alarm Malfunction?

 By: Joshua Oliger

Were you in class learning about multiplication, addition, or even subtraction and you hear this loud noise? It is the fire alarm! Did you go outside and you see a teacher telling you to go back inside? Well, we wish we had an answer for you! Four different times the fire alarms went off at the Mahomet Seymour Jr High! Each time everyone was very confused after an announcement came on and said for everyone to remain in their classroom!

When the fire alarms went off I was with Mrs. Hart's math class, and it did not take long for everyone to get outside. When the teachers told us to go back inside the alarms were not silenced. After everyone got into their classrooms and the halls were clear, the fire alarm system was reset but everyone lost focus on all assignments and got confused.

Unfortunately, the next day the alarms went off again; however, this time there was an announcement to stay in classrooms. After all of this, a few weeks later the fire alarms went off again in 1/2nd hour. There was once again an announcement. A few days later they went off AGAIN! And there was no explanation. Whatsoever. I think that we NEED a new fire alarm system at the Mahomet-Seymour Jr High School.

As the year progresses many students are thinking about one thing: School! Many students worry about being new to the school and some worry about new responsibilities. Some want to get to classes faster, be more organized, and all students have a different opinion on school worry. So here are some tips.

Organizing can be one of the worst things in all of school. From remembering to turn in homework to remembering to lock your gym locker, everything is pure chaos. Sorting all your stuff into folders is absolutely essential. It is easy and it will reduce stress and make you feel good about the school year. Just get a folder for each class and put your stuff for that class in and then bang you have organized folders.

Also, remembering to shut your locker can be difficult. 6th graders usually shut their lockers more than 7th and 8th graders do. Remembering is simple, you just have to write it down on a sticky note and put it in your gym locker.

Getting to class on time is also one of the most important things in middle school. If you are new to school or have spread out classes, it can be especially hard to manage. All you have to do is don’t run or speed walk, just find a shortcut and use it. If you can’t find any shortcuts and you are still getting to class late you can lighten your load and only carry necessities. If you don’t know what to dump, you should first dump a thing from a class you already did, your lunch box, or your 9th hour class supplies if you are not in 8th hour.

Handling the stress of school in general can be hard. If you have a lot of stress build up, you should take a deep breath and remind yourself that no matter how hard life gets, you can always take the choice to keep pushing. Also, if that does not work, you can always pet a pet once you get home or squish some slime or a stuffed animal. Remember that it is okay to feel stress, just you don’t have to give in to it. Also just being kind can make you feel better about yourself. No matter how hard school can seem, you can always solve the problems that it brings, whether or not they are quiz problems. Remember to keep pushing, and before you know it you will be done with the school year.
