The student handbook states that
"Student use of cell phones/personal technology devices is permitted during passing periods and in the commons area during lunch. Each student is provided a district-issued device to facilitate learning during class. This device, not a student cell phone, is considered the primary electronic resource to support learning in classrooms. During class instruction cell phones will be either secured using the designated classroom storage procedure"
and that
"Students are expected to comply affirmatively with the redirection/intervention efforts of teachers/administrators specific to cell phone use during classes. Failure to cooperate with staff will result in disciplinary action."
As a part of a school-wide initiative to help students avoid distraction caused by texting, social media, and other activities associated with phones the orchestra will be complying with the phone pick-up policy. The following is a description of how this procedure will be carried out.
Phone collection and distribution procedure
As students enter the room they will drop their silenced cell phones into the assigned slot at the collection center.
Mr. Zeleski will ensure that all slots are filled. If a student's spot is not filled, they will be questioned as to if they have their phone on them. If they do they will need to place it in the assigned location.
If a student's phone goes off during class that will be reported as a minor discipline issue. Repeated violation of the policy will result in further disciplinary action as is outlined in the school policy.
During class, the phones will be secured to avoid tampering.
At the end of class, students may pick up their phones before leaving.
