From the Principal:
If your child has a phone, a social media account or participates in online video gaming they will at some point encounter online situations that are difficult to navigate. Please remember that many of these apps have an age requirement of 13. While the apps can seem fun and innocent, and certainly could be used that way, it's also a way for our kids to feel they are older than they are, and they may find themselves in situations they are not emotionally ready to handle, nor should they have to. Setting boundaries early will help ease that transition to middle school, and eventually high school. Attached is a flyer for a parent information night at Millard West if you're interested in more information about social media and your child.
How can I monitor my child online? When should my child get a phone? What is “vamping” anyway? The Millard Public Schools Superintendent’s Interfaith Advisory asked these questions and more importantly, is assisting families with the answers. MPS and the Interfaith Advisory have collaborated on the #BeKind When You’re Online initiative.
Join us Tuesday, March 3 at Millard West High School, 6:30-7:30 PM for an informational Parent’s Night session with START (Stand Together and Rethink Technology). START has been nationally recognized for their work and was featured by Diane Sawyer on her Screen Time special last spring. Together we will learn how to begin the conversations that every family needs to have about the use of digital technology in their home.
This event for parents is free and open to the public. See attached flyer.
Read Across America Week: We will be celebrating Read Across America Week on March 2nd-6th. Students are encouraged to participate in our featured theme each day. Mrs. Ward has coordinated many guest readers to share books with our students. Please read the attached flyer for more details.
