Middletown Public Schools, in collaboration with our health department, school’s physician, and our nursing department, will be participating in Connecticut's Screen and Stay initiative. This will give parents a possible option to keep their child in school when identified as a close contact. The initiative will go into place on Monday, November 22nd, 2021.
Screen and stay initiative will allow unvaccinated students who are determined to be a close contact with someone who tested positive within the school setting to stay in school. This option does not apply to close contact situations that have occurred outside of the school setting.
Parent(s) will have this option as long as they agree to the following requirements for 14 days after being identified as a close contact.
Agree with and sign off on the Affirmation of Intent to Comply requirements.
Agree to the daily symptom screening checklist.
Agree that their child will not be participating in Physical Education Class, Music Class, Recess, Projected Speech, or any aerosol-generating activities while in school. Students will be allowed to observe, watch, or will be provided an alternative assignment during class time.
Agree that during recess time (elementary only) the child will be able to attend with their class but will not participate. The student will be allowed to take their mask off as long as they keep their distance from the other students during that time.
Agree that their child will not be allowed to participate in any after-school sports activities and will be allowed to resume after their Screen and Stay period has finished. The student will follow all CIAC guidelines.
Agree that their child will not be allowed to participate in any before-school and after-school activities (YMCA, clubs, activities, 21st Century, mentoring, etc.)
Agree and understand that their child’s seat might be changed in certain circumstances including when the child has meals.
Agrees and understand that their child will have to adhere to the six feet social distancing guidelines during mask breaks.
