MLA format requires that you set up your paper in a specific way. On this page, we will be showing you how to format the Manuscript section of your paper. In MLA rules, Manuscript is the name for the main body of the paper you are writing.
You must following MLA formatting guidelines so that the appearance of the paper is correct.

- Use 1-inch margins on all sides
- Use a running header ½ inch from the top of the paper
- Include your last name and the page number in the upper right corner
- Include in the upper left corner of the first page:
- Your full name
- Your teacher’s full name (beginning with Ms./Mrs./Mr.)
- Your class name
- The date (Day, Month, Year)
- Center the title of your paper at the top
- Double space the entire paper
- ½ inch indents to begin new paragraphs
