For Parents: How to Ask About a Day at School

13_ways_to_ask_about_school.pdf

Over the years, I remember having the same conversation with my own kids that I had with my parents, except the roles were reversed.

"How was your day at school today?"

"Fine."

"What did you learn?"

"Nothing.

This didn't help anyone!

So, I was excited to read an article that gave examples of other question prompts to use to start a conversation about what is happening in school. I have used this successfully with my own kids and I am always interested to see where the conversation goes!

And I see how stressful it is when what is needed first is a chance to relax.

In addition to my ongoing reflections on being a better teacher, I am reflecting on how to be a better mom, and these tips are part of that process for me...

This PDF is an article by Bob Cunningham about ideas for question prompts to get a richer, more complex conversation regarding school. Here is a link to the source of the information.
