Current Extracurricular and Program Opportunities
This tuition-free program for Minneapolis High School students (ages 14-17) includes hands-on activities, from learning cultural crafts, sports, and games to preparing authentic cultural foods, all intended to illuminate some of the rich cultural and linguistic connections around us every day. No experience required. This is a great opportunity for those interested in working with international/multilingual communities in other countries, or here at home in the United States! Deadline to apply is January 18, 2022.
Participants will:
Meet once a week (February-June) to explore languages and cultures.
Attend an overnight retreat in April at Camp Iduhapi.
Receive a full scholarship to a one- or two-week summer language immersion experience at Concordia Language Villages (or, by special arrangement, to a virtual language immersion experience the following fall).
Participants can choose from the following meeting days/locations:
Tuesdays at Bryant Square Park 4-6pm (February 8 – May 31, does not meet 2/22, 4/5)
Wednesdays at Northeast Park 4-6pm (February 9 – June 1, does not meet 2/23, 3/6)
Thursdays at North Commons Park 4-6pm (February 10 – June 2, does not meet 2/24, 3/7)
Teen Health Empowerment Council (posted 9/16)
In T.H.E Council, you will meet and work with teens across the city, develop leadership and communication skills, engage in health outreach activities, advise the School Based Clinics, and earn GIFT CARDS! You can apply online.
Get Certified by Project Success! (posted 9/16)
The Project Success Institute is offering free in-person classes in bike repair, financial literacy, cooking, and computer coding this fall, 4:30-6:30 p.m., Monday-Thursday. All programming is FREE, includes free transportation, and snacks! You can register at any time, even after the course you’re interested in has started. Class information here.
