I-Ready beginning of the year (BOY) DP reflection
My overall grade level was early 8th, 520, which means I tested in the level I'm supposed to be in.
I'm in the 77th percentile, which is fairly good (I think).
I scored the highest in Geometry, and I scored the lowest in numbers and operations (though from that point I've gotten much better at all the things).
By the end of this year, I want to score in mid 9th-early 10, and I will work hard to reach my goal by doing more than expected.
I think that I did good on this tests, getting a meets with as high as meets can go. I missed a day that we learned a formula, so I had a little bit of struggle in a few spots, but other than that I thought I did pretty good.
This is our math homework, where we do the problems we are given over the week, and it helps us learn new formulas, practice ones we know, and practice ones we already knew.
I am NOT proud of this test, I got an approaching, mainly because I wasn't here for when we learned a lot of crucial things, so I have a lot to make up for. I'm not entirely sure why I got an approaching, because I filled out all the test corrections properly, which if I calculate properly would've bumped me up to a meets, but I suppose there is a fair reasoning.
In general, I prepared for this quadratics test by studying the night before, and having confidence in my abilities to understand the subject. I didn’t get a great percent (13%) on the Delta Math - I was too focused on studying the practice test. And with that, I completely did the practice test, and I think that helped me a lot with learning some of the formulas I might not have known.
During class time, I think I was a little unfocused, since I mainly did my practice test and was trying to understand and follow the class. Had a not done the practice test however, I wouldn’t have even gotten an approaching on the regular test.
Considering my goals for next year, I will handle the next hard math unit to ensure I feel confident by studying extra, like working on similar problems or practice test. I feel like practice tests really benefit me, the Delta Math doesn’t help me at all, in my opinion. I would want to practice something similar to a practice test.
I would tell them to focus on the practice test, marking ones they don’t understand, going back, and doing several problems like them. I think that they should have a shorter Delta Math, because I think it just added to the stress level (at least for me), and might be easier to have less things to work on and more time to study.
I think my grade reflects my level of preparation, since I understood none of the concepts on Monday, but after working on the practice test on Wednesday last minute, I understood significantly more. Had I studied a little bit longer, I probably would have gotten a meets, maybe even an exceeds.
I would like to focus on doing practice problems, like on the practice test. With Delta Math, I often find myself looking up answers, or using an ai, but when it’s on paper and i’m actually writing it down, it seems to register better and be more memorable.
The lesson I found the most helpful was when you asked us to find our own sources to learn from, I really thought I gained from that - because I had to pay attention and work hard to find the way to solve a problem or an explanation to how. I think I have a really hard time focusing on more common lessons, and find myself not paying attention, or not understanding the lesson. I work better when I’m working on my own terms, I would like to think.
