Self Portraits
Students learned techniques for drawings what they see, breaking things down into shapes, and figuring out proportions. They also learned about shading in order to create a realistic self portrait.
Impressionist artwork
For this project, students learned about the art of the impressionist painters. They studied their use of color and the lack of realistic detail. Students then created their own impressionist art piece, using oil pastel or watercolor.
Perspective Drawings
Students learned about drawing using one and two point perspective. This technique allows for realistic city and building drawings.
John Neito Project
Students will choose and draw and animal in the style of John Neito using oil pastel or colored pencil. This will allow students to understand how color changes our perception of light and depth. It will also help them to understand how specific color schemes affect our perception of an artwork, and its meaning.
Cubism Self Portrait
Students were asked to look at works of Picasso and Georges Braques, in order to understand the historical significance of cubism and its impact on the art world. They then were tasked with creating a self portrait in Cubism-style using either oil pastels or charcoal, using the techniques they had just learned.
