Project Overview
5th graders this semester were very excited about this self portrait project with a twist. Rather than just drawing themselves, they were asked to draw themselves as their favorite character. This could mean drawing themselves in the cartoon style of their favorite show, or drawing themselves as the character (several kids chose to draw themselves as Hermione Granger, for example). In this way, the self portrait to shows more than just what they look like, but a little bit about who they are as well!
Learning Objective
"I can justify choices made during the artistic process that resulted in the finished work of art and design."
Investigate and analyze how specific points of view can be communicated through the language of visual art and design.
Visualize intended meaning and determine a method of planning that best supports personal artmaking.
Apply an understanding of art processes and studio skills to create works of art and design.
Project Overview
For this project, 5th graders discussed perspective and how the angle at which something is viewed affects a picture. The goal was for them to create a drawing of their favorite winter activity from an interesting point of view. The class learned about foreshortening, and scale in order to achieve these interesting angles. This project was meant to provide a challenge, and the class went above and beyond.
Learning Target
"I can demonstrate technical skills and processes to achieve desired results."
"I can create a drawing of my favorite winter activity using an uncommon perspective"
