it is a widely believed myth that some people are math people, and some people just aren't. this myth consists of three different ideas. the first one is the binary myth, many people believe there are people who are good at math, and people who are bad at it, but in truth, there is a wide spectrum of mathematical ability. the second idea is the low empathy myth. this is that in a lot of environments., people are made to feel bad about themselves. the last one is the stereotype myth. this one is professionals believing one gender of race to be smarter and better at math that others. Studies show that mistakes are important in math because they physically grow the brain. we saw this in the one cut activity by trouble shooting ideas before coming up with conclusions. In the past, i have had a very bad attitude toward math, but this year it is my goal to get a better attitude and do my best. This year, i will not discount my math abilities, and i will do my best work.
The first math quest covered functions. On my homework quest, I studied hard and felt solid, even though it was new to me. I answered one question wrong on the quiz because i misinterpreted what it meant. thism earned me an Approaching. I revised it and turned it back in, earning a meets. My goal for the next math quest is to read the questions thoroughly before turning it in.
My overall grade was 554, or mid 8th. This means I tested ahead of grade level at the beginning of the school year.
I scored in the 95th percentage nationwide. I scored the highest in measurement and data, a late 8th. I scored early 8th in algebra and algebraic thinking, and that was my worst domain.
