Day 1 (Sunday): We woke up at 4:30 AM, and drove to the airport to fly to Puerto Rico. When we arrived we headed to the hotel to set down our bags and then walk to dinner.
Day 2 (Monday): We headed to a local shop and created mini versions of traditional masks. Then we headed to our new hotel, dropped our bags and went to a nearby beach. After a few hours we had a bomba dance class.
Day 3 (Tuesday): When we woke up we headed to El Yunque National Forest. We got to see an old castle and we also got to swim in the river. We had a little extra time so we went to the beach before heading to dinner. After dinner we went to Mosquito Bay and saw the bioluminescent waters.
Day 4 (Wednesday): After breakfast we headed to a local cacao farm to learn about the history of cacao and see how that business was run. We even got to taste some chocolate. Then we headed snorkeling, after about an hour and a half of exploring the reef we headed to a near by island to hangout on the beach and the boat.
Day 5 (Thursday) : We woke up at 5:00 AM Puerto Rico time, so 3:00 AM in Durango and headed to go volunteer and a local non-profit gardening center. We worked hard moving plants from inside to outside, picking berries and extracting the seeds, watering plants, weeding plants, and helping out where ever we could. Finally we headed back to the original hotel, dropped off our stuff, and went on a tour of one of the old castles built by the spanish. We finished a little early, so we had about 30 min to explore San Juan and go shopping. Finally we headed back to the hotel and prepared for our final dinner.
Day 6 (Friday): We were able to sleep in pretty late, but I wanted to head to explore the pool in the hotel before we left Puerto Rico entirely. At 11:00 AM we headed to the airport to catch our flight back home.
During this trip I feel like I used ownership because my roommate and I were always the earliest to be down at the lobby room and we were always ready for anything and prepared for the day.
