In grade three, students will build important reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. Through shared and independent reading, students will strengthen their vocabulary, recognize spelling patterns, and colloborate to answer higher level questions. Comprehending grade-level text and increasing fluency are also key goals this year.
The writing focus in third grade is on organizing ideas, conventions, and appropriately answering the prompt.

In third grade, students will continue to build their concept of numbers, developing an understanding of fractions as numbers. They will learn the concepts behind multiplication and division and learn their 1 - 9 facts. Other topics include telling time to the minute, rounding nu,bers to the nearest 10 or 100, and metric measurement.

Strategies for teaching Multiplication: Arrays, number bonds, tape diagrams, draw pictures, and memorization
Manipulatives, draw pictures, compare sizes, adding with like denominators
Use clocks to the hour, half hour, quarter hour, 5 minute, and 1 minute. Elapsed time on a number line
Rounding on a vertical number line to 1000 by 10s and 100s
We focus on grams, liters, meters- groups of 10-we use different kinds of scales to measure and compare
Area and Perimeter are introduced right before the standardized assessments

Physical education, music, and art is provided to the students several times a week. Students are exposed to a variety of exercises, musical, and artistic experiences.
