District Six in San Francisco is a dynamic zone with massive cultural and economic impacts that reverberate throughout the city. The Salesforce Tower, built in District Six, stands as a beacon that can be seen from miles away and is a constant reminder of the wealth and innovation in San Francisco. But within District Six, the Tenderloin specifically, lies an insidious storm of homelessness, crime, trash and some of the worst living conditions in the United States. Matt Haney is an elected supervisor who lives in the Tenderloin. In between his meetings, political appearances and fighting for his constituents, Haney is constantly reminded of the horrific sights of the neighborhood.

Some streets of the Tenderloin neighborhood are littered with trash, feces, the smell of urine and homelessness. Haney frequently walks these streets to get to and from meetings but to also connect with those he represents.
