What type of cookie did you choose to make, and why?
We chose Cookie Monster cookies for their appearance and the diversity of flavors.
What mixing method was used in your cookie recipe? Why is this method important for that type of cookie?
We used a whisk in the Kitchen Aid to ensure that it was thoroughly mixed at a consistent speed and that it had the best texture.
What challenges did you encounter while measuring, mixing, or baking?
It was difficult to measure the amount of food dye needed to make the perfect blue, and even in the end, we didn't have the exact colors.
Describe the appearance, texture, and taste of your finished cookies. Were they what you expected?
It was a deep blue with a nice crunch of the Oreos and a melt of chocolate chips, along with the pop of white throughout, which is what I was expecting.
How did your cookies compare to the ideal characteristics of that type (e.g., chewy vs. crispy, spread vs. puff)?
Ours were baked a little longer, giving them a crispy outside, which I did not like.
What would you do differently next time to improve your final product?
If you were to develop your own cookie recipe, what would you include or change?
I would have put in smaller amounts of food coloring at a time, and used less purple than we did. Along with also taking them out just a couple of minutes beforehand to make them more chewy.
What was your biggest takeaway from this unit, and how might it influence your future baking?
Measurements are very important, and you can always add more; you can never take away things.
