MUSD MTIP - Program Support

Advisement & Assistance

MTIP operates through a comprehensive approach to support each candidate's journey. Our dedicated staff thoughtfully reviews the individual work of every candidate. Should any clarifications or additional evidence be required, candidates will receive personalized guidance, ensuring they comprehend and manage necessary modifications.

Candidates will regularly receive feedback, both formal and informal, that highlights their teaching strengths and areas that may pose challenges. Throughout the program, candidates will be provided with ample opportunities to showcase their growth and grasp of the teaching principles outlined in the CSTP.

Recognizing that some candidates might face difficulties in fulfilling program requirements within the prescribed time frame, MTIP is committed to fostering success through its Assist and Advisement process. This tailored framework of support is crafted based on identified concerns about a candidate's progress. Collaboratively, the candidate, mentor, and Program Specialist will develop a comprehensive completion plan, to provide remedial support and potential accommodations. Should progress and/or participation not improve, the Program Specialist will collaborate with the FTR mentor to counsel and advise the candidate and determine whether the candidate will be dropped from the program.

Occasionally, circumstances might necessitate an extension of the program timeline. MTIP aspires for candidates to complete all requirements within a two-year span, however, we understand that unforeseen challenges can arise. In such cases, the candidate, mentor, and Induction Program Specialist will convene to discuss and document a Request for an Extension. Our collective aim remains to empower every candidate to thrive, ensuring that each step of the MTIP journey is meaningful and transformative.

Probation

In addition to attending all program meetings, candidates are expected to complete all program requirements. Failure to make progress in any component of the Induction Program is cause for probation. If a candidate has not met program requirements within the timeline, the Induction Program Specialist will schedule a meeting with the candidate to review the expectations of the program and place the candidate on probation. A follow-up meeting will occur to review the candidate’s progress and determine the candidate’s next steps in the Induction Program.

Plagiarism

Candidates are expected to pursue honesty and integrity in all aspects of their academic work. Academic dishonesty, including plagiarism, falsification of records or documents, personal misrepresentations, and theft will not be tolerated. The Induction Program Specialist will schedule a meeting with the candidate to review the expectations of the program and place the candidate on probation. A follow-up meeting will occur to review the candidate’s progress and determine the candidate’s next steps in the Induction Program

Grievance & Appeals Process

MTIP is committed to supporting candidates in the successful completion of the program requirements within two years while ensuring to make every effort to provide a meaningful induction program experience.

MTIP has an Induction Grievance and Appeals Process with the intent of assuring fairness and objectivity in resolving all candidate concerns in a timely and effective manner.

A candidate with a dispute has recourse through the Induction Grievance Process and may initiate the MTIP Induction Grievance Process if:

A candidate disagrees with the evaluation of submitted work; and/or
Disagrees with the final recommendation related to the Induction Program completion.

Grievance:

A candidate must submit the written Grievance/Appeals Google Form to the Induction Program Specialist no later than 10 calendar days upon which the dispute occurred. Upon reviewing the information, the Induction Program Specialist will make a determination.

Appeal:

If the candidate disagrees with the decision of the Induction Program Specialist, an appointment may be made to discuss the grievance with the Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services within 15 days of the decision.

Teach-Out Plan

Montebello Unified School District will be diligent in maintaining accreditations and authorities associated with the delivery of the Montebello Teacher Induction Program (MTIP).

In the event that MTIP should voluntarily or involuntarily be discontinued, the district will make good faith efforts to assist affected candidates in experiencing a minimal amount of disruption in the pursuit of completing the program and obtaining a Clear Credential.

All candidates functioning within the Induction Program will be notified of the decision to close the program as soon as possible, so they can make appropriate plans. The Induction Program Specialist and staff will advise teachers who have not completed their program at the time of closure with the following:

The date of last availability and program closure
Arrangements for disposition of all candidate records, including individual documentation of the level of completion and timeline detailing the expected completion date
Procedures to ensure the completion of the current semester within the district, if possible, or
Identify each institution in a reasonable geographic proximity that offers programs similar to MTIP (such as the Los Angeles County Office of Education).

Transportability Document

Should a candidate move from the MUSD Induction Program to another induction program they will receive a transportability document. This document will provide the candidate with credit for the work completed while enrolled in the MTIP. The transportability document will be provided directly to the candidate.

Upon completion of the program and/or early departure from the program, candidates will receive instructions on how to save their digital work for their personal records. Candidates may contact the Induction Program Specialist for assistance in accessing their induction records.

Transcripts & University Graduate Units

Candidates will receive a Verification of Completion letter, or transportability documentation, which demonstrates the work they have completed by the end of the school year from the MUSD Teacher Induction Program Specialist. Candidates are advised to make copies of their online portfolio work and ILP submission upon completing the Induction Program or upon leaving Montebello USD. Candidates may request access to their Induction documentation for the purpose of verifying academic units and program completion from the Program Specialist in the Educational Services department.
Graduate units from Whittier College are available to Candidates who satisfactorily complete the program requirements. Registration information is provided to the candidate at the end of the school year. Whittier College offers six units per year only during participating years of the Montebello Teacher Induction Program. Units may not be earned retroactively.
