Young Fives/Kindergarten Transition

Transitions from Head Start into Young Fives/Kindergarten

1302.71 of the Head Start Program Performance Standards requires that the Head Start program assist families in successfully transitioning into Young Fives/Kindergarten when they age out of Head Start (turn 5 years old by September 1 of the following school year).

The MCISD Head Start program begins talking about your child's transition out of Head Start from the very first parent/teacher conference you have. Each parent teacher conference and home visit will revisit your Young Five/Kindergarten plans to ensure they are up-to-date and relevant. Additionally, Head Start staff plan various transition activities and communicates important transition information as it becomes available (i.e. Kindergarten Round Up information, Kindergarten meet and greet events, etc.). For more information on Young Fives and Kindergarten in your district, please find your child's school district link below.
