What is Head Start/Early Head Start?
Head Start (HS) and Early Head Start (EHS) are Federally funded programs available throughout the United States. The programs promote school readiness by enhancing the social and cognitive development of children prenatal-5 years old through the provision of educational, health, nutritional, social, and other services to enrolled children and families. Early Head Start in Monroe County is a home-based program that prenatal mothers and children 0-3 years. Services for enrolled families include a weekly home visit and a socialization opportunity. Each family is carefully paired with a skilled home visitor that will best assist the family in meeting their goals. All services are free to those who qualify for the program.
