The Giants of the Sky

Process:

Art program - FireAlpaca

Brushes used - Foliage, standard pen brush, Air brush, blur, Pencil (canvas), Glitter brush and Mix brush (all included with the app)

Time taken - 16 hours (strewn over a few days)

Steps:

1 - Concept sketch + background color

I was inspired by some clouds I saw on a car ride, so I took a picture for reference and then drew the clouds, adding some details to make them appear as giant dragons. Once I finished the clouds and background(using the canvas pencil brush, mix brush and foliage brush), I noticed that it felt sort of empty, and the colors slightly dull. I decided to add smaller, bird-like dragons.

2 - Lining and placement edits

I lined the sketches of the bird-dragons and moved their placements around.

3 - Colors and background sky color edits

I colored the dragons, and edited the sky’s background color to make the dragons pop out a little bit.

4 - Shading and silhouette dragons

I gave the bird dragons shading and lighting, and added some silhouette dragons in the sky and on the ground.

5 - Overlay effects

I added an overall color on low opacity and the glitter overlay that’s present on the finished piece.

6 - Signature

Added the signature in the bottom left corner.
