Guidance Groups

Referrals through RTI

- Students can be referred to Guidance Groups in the first round of Response to Intervention and thereafter (on a need basis)

Overview:

instruction and practice for social skills, communication, problem-solving, self-control, building self-esteem and confidence, facilitating development of friendship, learning calming strategies, and coping with difficult life events. Small groups meet for approximately 30 minutes during the school day every 1 to 2 weeks.

  • Selection for groups is based on parent and teacher referral. These groups provide an opportunity for students to meet together and engage in activity-based sessions to talk and share.
  • Permission slips are sent home and parents are required to sign before a student can be enrolled in group. Communication with the parents is executed throughout the year.
