Why You Should Join School Clubs

By the Falconaire Editors

High school is a difficult time. It’s an awkward phase of life, where fitting in with different groups is often tricky. There are a lot of new things happening all at once, and with the past few years being an isolated mess, lots of people may feel lonely. So what’s a teen to do? Join a club!

Be Heard

Joining school clubs allows for students' voices to be heard. In these clubs, you are able to make a small or even a huge difference in the school and outside community. In other words, you get to be “the change you want to see in the world.” By joining different clubs, you can be involved in communal events, raise awareness of global issues or even those on a small scale, at school. Imagine all the good you can bring to yourself and those around you! One example of how clubs make changes in the school is when the Falconaire pushed for the school to install air conditioning, maybe that’s why today our classrooms are nice and cold. Other clubs have beach clean-ups, clothing drives, writing contests, presentations by influential people, art projects, and so much more!

Build a Resume

The biggest reason people join a club is for their future. Clubs allow colleges to see that you are pursuing your interests and that you have a passion. But don’t join 10 clubs because you want to look good, pick ones because you enjoy them and you participate! School clubs give you an opportunity to explore your interests, discover new ones, and help you narrow down on what you may want to pursue in life. You may even learn things from experts in the field of interest. Clubs may also recognize your leadership. With all your newly gained knowledge and interaction in the club, you may earn a Leadership Award Medal in June and wear it at graduation, as well as include on your resume.

Meet New People/ Friends

Chances are, you're going to be exposed to students you may or may not interact with. Clubs are a great way to get to know people who have similar interests as you. High school is where many lasting friendships are made, and stepping outside of your shell to meet these people is always worth it.

Build School Spirit

Ideally a healthy school is made up of many organizations that positively contribute to the culture. The environmental club teaches students how to do little things that help deal with global warming. The debate club allows students to have controlled arguments without attacking each other. Language clubs teach about different cultures and let you connect with more people. That's just a few of them. All of these skills can be applied to your daily life in school to make it a better place!

Improve Mental Health

The American Psychological Association states that there is a connection between club participation and improved mental health. Fun has been discovered to be a stress reliever.

So the only thing left to say is which club are you going to try?
