MOODLE WILL GO LIVE ON 8TH OF JUNE
H5P is a great tool to create a variety of self-paced activities that students can do in their own time in Moodle, using a range of templates that you can adapt without needing any programming skills. H5Ps can be used as activities for online tutorials, revision and self-assessments and many more activities that lead to active learning.
While Moodle has included H5P interactive activities for some time, the new H5P Content Bank offers a convenient way to create and store interactive content that can be embedded directly into Moodle pages and other resources.
Here is an example of an H5P presentation activity that you could build.
H5P is great for creating self-paced online activities and content interactions. It can be used as a way to display your content in a chunked format or scaffolded using flashcards, timelines and other types of simple interactions. Or it can be used to get students to actively participate in their learning by answering a variety of question types related to the content. You have access to 41 different H5P activity types in Moodle. This includes drag and drops, find the hotspot, quizzes, interactive videos and course presentations and many more. View examples of different content types on the H5P website to explore which activity types that best meet the learning outcome.
The H5P Content Bank further increases the usability of this flexible learning software by making it easy to embed H5P activities in any part of your Moodle page, including within other Moodle activities such as Books, Pages, and Lessons.
It is recommended that you build your H5P activities in the content bank. Continue to the next page for more information. Once created in the Content Bank, you can easily:
Using the H5P icon in the TinyMCE or ATTO text editor, you can embed H5P interactive activities in Moodle easily. Embedded H5P activities are not linked to the Moodle Gradebook. Continue to the next pages for more information.
To create a graded H5P activity that is linked to the Moodle Gradebook, use the older method of adding H5Ps. Select Add an activity or resource and then H5P Interactive Content. This allows you to grade the H5P activity and also to enable Activity Completion tracking. Any question attempts can be marked automatically, and the grade is recorded in the gradebook.
Note: Though you can use H5P for graded activities, grading is limited. You can track activity completion and see a final, automarked grade in the gradebook, as long as you use the correct settings. As H5P uses pre-built layouts and designs, complex visual or behavioural customisation may not be possible. You may need to consider other technologies for more control and customization.
There are a number of activity types that allow you to integrate multiple H5P activity types into one H5P activity, such as the Course Presentation, Column and Interactive book.
Course Presentations allows you to combine multiple H5P interactive content types by creating multiple slides, the Column activity allows you to do this on one long scrolling page, while the interactive book allows you to do this through multiple pages.
You can include links, pictures, audio and video clips, various question types and exportable text areas.
