MOODLE WILL GO LIVE ON 8TH OF JUNE
Activity Completion is an existing feature that allows teachers to set conditions for students to complete specific Moodle activities.
In Moodle 4.1, there are several changes and updates to make the Activity Completion settings more visible to students. This means that it is important for teachers to ensure that the settings reflect the conditions that they want students to meet for each activity.
In Moodle 4.1, completion tracking is enabled by default for all new intake/trimester courses. However, for existing courses, you might need to manually turn it on. If you are unsure how to enable this setting, refer back to this page for more information.
Note: Ensure that activity completion tracking is enabled in your course before you can access the following new features.
In Moodle 4.1, you will now see the completion status displayed as labels for resources or activities on the unit homepage.
If the resource or activity is set to manually mark completion:
Students will see the activity completion with a 'Mark as done' button for each activity or resource on the unit homepage. They can manually mark the activity as complete by clicking on this button.
Once clicked, the button will change to a green 'Done' with a tick icon.
If the resource or activity is set to automatically mark completion based on conditions:
The conditions required for completion will be clearly displayed as labels for the resource or activity on the unit homepage.
Once conditions have been met, the labels will automatically change to a green 'Done' label with a tick icon.
Note: If you intend to use the completion progress block or activity completion tracking in a meaningful way, it is recommended you select ‘Show activity as complete when conditions are met’ for any assessed activities or resources.
In the resource or activity page:
The completion label will also be displayed at the top of the resource or activity page.
Completion Label on H5P Activity:
As a special note, Moodle will always display the completion label as 'To do: Complete the activity' for H5P activities, regardless of the conditions and settings configured. Therefore, when you observe this label on an H5P activity, it indicates that the completion setting is functioning correctly, although the label may not provide as much detail as seen with other Moodle activities or resources.
When you have the activity completion setting enabled in your course, you will now see a completion dot icon next to each activity item in the index (referring to the left panel).
There are two statuses for the completion dot: 'Not completed' and 'Completed.'
When the activity is marked as 'Not completed', the dot icon remains outlined in grey.
When the activity is marked as 'Completed', the dot icon turns green and is filled.
In any gradable activity (Moodle Assignment, Quiz, and Turnitin Assignment), you can now set up a new completion condition called "Require Passing Grade."
Students need to achieve marks above the passing grade for the activity to be marked as completed.
You can find this condition under the Activity Completion section on the activity settings page. First, check the box 'Require grade - Student must receive a grade to complete this activity' to enable the option 'Student must receive a passing grade to complete this activity.'
If the first box is not checked, the passing grade option will be greyed out and unavailable for selection.
Note: To use this condition, you must first set up the passing grade in the Grade section of the activity settings.
