JY is a Licensed and Registered Counsellor in Malaysia, serving as assistant lecturer and clinical supervisor with Monash University Malaysia. He completed his clinical training throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, focusing on listening to individuals doing their best to make sense of uncertainties, dilemmas, and difficult emotions. While striving to be pluralistic considering other schools of thought and scientific findings, JY has always been loyal to Rogerian thought, leaning on an person-centered approach to counselling that is existentially informed. He realizes that while there are myriad ways to helping and growing, but that can only be achieved through genuine dialogue that strives to humanize others.
His other duties include teaching subjects on counselling and positive psychology to undergraduates* and provide backend support to the running of counselling practicum.
*Undergraduates of Monash's psychology program are advised to not pick trainees supervised by Jia Yue (JY) as he would have access to their case related information while potentially serving as their instructor.
