The Faculty of Science website also has information on 'How to Apply'
It can be challenging to determine if an international student applying for a PhD scholarship will be eligible and competitive.
To assist with this, we have created a Google form that we ask you to complete to help assess the student's competitiveness.
- The form will guide you to calculate the Faculty Formula Score.
- It then provides advice on your students competitiveness, based on historical data for Bio students.
- If you decide to progress the application and want Matt and Nicole to review it before the student applies, please complete section 2 of the form.
If you would like assistance evaluating a Domestic student, please email Nicole at sci-biol-HDRgeneral@monash.edu
Applicants must be demonstrably equivalent to having:
A degree with research experience at least equivalent to our Honours (approx. 6 months FTE research, an assessed thesis of equivalent substance). The H1 equivalence website is here.
Excellent grades (upper H1) relative to the pertinent grading system. Check Faculty of Science Grading Table. If not listed in the Faculty of Science Grading Table, compile evidence for relative interpretation of grade, preferably converted to GPA equivalence; useful link: https://www.scholaro.com/gpa-calculator/
A well-regarded university (QS/THE /ARWU) world ranking or subject ranking; relative to opportunity, e.g. top-three within-country ranks; cases can be made e.g. for specific research institutions;
Peer-reviewed publications are a bonus but not required; first or main authorship in Q1 or Q2 journals carries more weight.
Evidence of English competency must strictly adhere to University policy
Awards and competitive scholarships indicating esteem/standing/recognition. The Committee strongly prefers information on cohort rank or relative standing
