All biological materials transported to Australia are subject to regulation under the Quarantine Act 1908.
The Australian Quarantine Inspection Service have a permit system in place to cover all biological goods. Breaches of the Quarantine Regulations carry serious consequences for both Monash and individual researchers.
The Monash Research Office has staff fully versed in the regulations and permit system to assist researchers with their needs. Researchers wanting to import biological material to Australia should first contact the Research Office.

The School of Biological Sciences has several facilities certified as Approved Arrangements.
AA facilities are inspected annually by the Department of Agriculture audit teams.
All staff working with quarantine material in an AA facility must complete the online quarantine awareness and accredited persons training.
Please speak to Stewart Crowley to arrange this. Please note there is an associated cost for the registration.
For any queries regarding School AA facilities please contact the School Compliance Officer.
